Unlocking London‘s Latest Culinary Obsession: Crave

London’s dining scene is a ceaseless kaleidoscope of innovation, and amidst the relentless churn of new openings, a restaurant truly has to sing to capture the capital’s attention. Enter Crave, nestled discreetly yet confidently on Regent Street, a culinary beacon that promises to be more than just another fleeting trend. From its enigmatic name, suggesting a primal desire for excellent food, to its sophisticated online presence, Crave arrives with a quiet hum of ambition. Our recent visit was driven by an inherent curiosity: could this new establishment genuinely satisfy the discerning palate and justify the buzz it’s already generating? We stepped in, ready to surrender our senses to what Crave had to offer, hoping for an experience that transcended mere sustenance, aiming instead for pure gastronomic delight.

Atmosphere & Impeccable Service at Crave

Upon entering Crave, one is immediately enveloped in an atmosphere that strikes a perfect balance between contemporary chic and inviting warmth. The decor is a masterclass in understated elegance: rich, dark wood accents complement plush velvet seating, while soft, ambient lighting casts a flattering glow, creating an intimate yet spacious feel. The hum of conversation is lively but never intrusive, thanks to intelligent acoustics that allow for both privacy and conviviality. It’s the kind of place where a business dinner feels appropriately serious, yet a romantic evening remains wonderfully intimate.

The service, however, truly elevates the experience. From the moment we were greeted, the staff demonstrated an impressive blend of professionalism and genuine warmth. Our server, knowledgeable without being pretentious, guided us through the menu with insightful recommendations and a clear passion for the dishes. Water glasses were magically refilled, cutlery appeared precisely when needed, and the pacing of the meal was flawless – attentive without hovering, efficient without rushing. It felt like a perfectly choreographed ballet, where every member of the team played their part in crafting a seamless and highly enjoyable evening.

A Symphony of Flavours: Crave’s Culinary Masterpieces

Crave’s menu is a thoughtful exploration of modern European cuisine, executed with a precision that speaks volumes of the kitchen’s ambition and talent. The focus is on seasonal, high-quality ingredients, artfully combined to create dishes that are both innovative and comforting. It’s a menu that encourages exploration, with a range of starters, mains, and desserts designed to intrigue.

Seared Scallops with Saffron Risotto
Our culinary journey began with the seared scallops, a dish that immediately set the bar high. Four perfectly caramelised scallops, boasting a delicate sweetness and a tender, yielding texture, rested atop a vibrant saffron risotto. The risotto itself was a triumph: creamy and al dente, infused with the subtle floral notes of saffron, providing a rich yet balanced counterpoint to the seafood. A scattering of toasted pine nuts added a welcome crunch, and a drizzle of fragrant herb oil brought everything together with a fresh, aromatic finish.

Pan-Roasted Duck Breast with Cherry Reduction
For our main, the pan-roasted duck breast was an absolute showstopper. The duck, cooked to a faultless medium-rare, presented a wonderfully crisp skin giving way to succulent, flavourful meat. It was accompanied by a rich, glossy cherry reduction that provided a delightful sweet-tart counterpoint, cutting through the richness of the duck beautifully. Alongside, a medley of seasonal root vegetables, roasted to perfection, offered earthy notes and a pleasant texture, making this a hearty yet refined dish.

Deconstructed Lemon Meringue Pie
Dessert was a playful yet sophisticated deconstructed lemon meringue pie. Breaking away from tradition, this dish featured dollops of intensely tart lemon curd, light-as-air torched meringue peaks, and delicate shards of buttery shortbread. The textures varied from creamy and chewy to crisp, and the explosion of citrus, sweetness, and buttery notes was a refreshing and memorable end to the meal. It was a deconstruction that genuinely enhanced the classic, allowing each component to shine.

The drinks menu at Crave is equally impressive, with a well-curated wine list featuring selections from renowned vineyards and emerging talents alike. A concise yet inventive cocktail menu offers both classic concoctions and unique house creations, ensuring there’s a perfect pairing for every dish and preference.

Crave: A Dining Destination Worth Indulging

Crave truly lives up to its name, leaving diners with a lingering desire to return. It masterfully blends a sophisticated yet welcoming ambiance with a level of service that anticipates every need, creating an environment where one can genuinely relax and savour the experience. But the real star of the show is, unequivocally, the food. Each dish we sampled was a testament to the kitchen’s dedication to quality, creativity, and impeccable execution, delivering complex flavours with apparent effortlessness.

While the price point places Crave firmly in the ‘special occasion’ or ‘discerning diner’ category, the overall value for money is undeniable. This is not merely a meal; it’s a meticulously crafted culinary journey, an experience designed to delight all the senses. Crave would appeal to anyone seeking a refined modern European dining experience, whether for an intimate celebration, an important business dinner, or simply a desire to indulge in truly exceptional food. London’s culinary landscape just got a significant, and very welcome, new addition. We’re already craving our next visit.
